From Seed to Song
By Bob Clary
At the time I wrote “Little Mustard Seed” my Pastor was teaching a series on ‘Faith, the Size of a Mustard Seed.’ He passed out a single mustard seed to each member of the congregation to keep as a reminder of faith. Some people lost their tiny seed before the service was even over and many more were misplaced by the time we gathered the next Sunday. In spite of their carelessness, our Pastor continued to replace the seeds each time we met.
I was the music director and worship leader for our church at that time and continually searched for music that helped convey the message being taught from the pulpit. As I pondered the faith principle of the mustard seed, God gave me both the tune and the words to this song.
Like the seed, this song is a reminder of God’s faith that is active in us. As we grow our faith in God’s promised Word, we also produce seeds of faith that others can pick from our tree. Truly we are the ‘Planting of the Lord.’
